If you were approved for a federal tax extension, then the State of Minnesota will automatically grant you a six-month tax extension. If you need to make a state tax payment, you'll need to submit Minnesota Form M13 (PDF).

Filing for a Minnesota tax extension will not grant you extra time to pay any tax balance due. Your balance must be paid by April 15 to avoid possible penalties.

If you already received an approval notification from ExpressExtension, and you don't need to make a tax payment, then you're all done.

For more information, visit the State of Minnesota Department of Revenue website.

All corporations are granted an automatic 7-month extension. You are not required to submit a form to Minnesota to receive the seven-month filing extension. All partnerships and S-Corporations are granted an automatic 6-month extension, if the taxes payable for the year are paid by the original due date of the return.

There is no extension to pay. Any balance due must be paid by the original due date. You need to submit a Minnesota tax payment voucher (listed below).

If you do not need to make a tax payment and have received an acceptance notification from ExpressExtension for a federal tax extension for your business, there’s nothing more to do.
